FAQ
Have a question about how I operate or what you can expect when I’m designing your site? With any luck, you’ll find your answer below. (And if not, feel free to get in touch with me to ask).
I don’t really need a website – just a blog. Can you do those too?
Definitely! I design both blogs and traditional websites. And websites that have blogs integrated into them, too!
I’m totally clueless when it comes to the internet and technology. Can you REALLY teach me to maintain my own site?
If you can send an email or type a document in Microsoft Word, you can maintain your own site. The WordPress interface is incredibly easy to use, and with my Totally Painless Training methods, you’ll get crystal-clear instructions on how to change content and other elements on your site, in the form of a handy manual. Don’t believe me? Check out our testimonials.
Is there anything I won’t be able to change on my site?
Yes – you won’t be able to change the existing site design or layout (you’d need advanced webby knowledge for that). But you’ll be able to create new content, add new products and services, blog, switch out featured videos, add photos to your pages, and much more.
How long does it usually take to complete work on a site?
It depends on how quickly you get back to me with approval on elements of the design, but a typical website design usually takes about a month, start to finish.
What if I have a really tight deadline for my site?
Drop me a line, and we’ll see how fast I can get it done for you.
What if I don’t like my site when it’s done?
No need to worry about that. My pre-project questionnaire ensures that we’re all on the same page when I start the design. Plus, I check in with you frequently while we’re designing the site, so that I can show you what I’ve done so far and get your ongoing approval.
What happens if I mess up my site somehow?
I keep a backup of your site design for at least 6 months after your project is completed, so if you accidentally do something to your site, you can email me, and I’ll restore it for you for a fee of $100.
Do you promise not to give my site design to another client or use it somewhere else?
Of course! Your design will be yours and yours alone, and I’ll never distribute it or share it with another soul.
Will you display my project in your portfolio?
Only if you say it’s OK.
Why do you use the Thesis theme for WordPress?
Because it’s intelligently designed and search engine optimization-friendly. This means you get a site that people can find easily online – translating to more traffic and more sales.
What is WordPress, anyway?
Wordpress is a content management system (CMS). Once I’ve created your site for you, it’s very easy to keep it updated using WordPress. You simply go to a special website address, enter your username and password, and you’re ready to write new posts, create new pages, and update your gallery with a few clicks of the mouse.
What kind of features can I have on my site?
Because I build sites on the WordPress platform, I can install almost any WordPress plugin or widget on your site. Before I start designing, I’ll discuss whether you want to have things like video on your site, and I’ll let you know ahead of time if any of them won’t be possible.
Will you make sure I’m all set up with social media stuff, such as an RSS feed and “Tweet This” button?
I recommend that all our clients have these features on their websites, so yes!
On top of web design and online marketing, are there any other services that you provide?
I also provide copywriting and graphic design services. So if you need some writing done or need a banner made, I can help. To inquire about these “extras”, just email me.
